2014 V Madrone Cabernet Sauvignon
The V Madrone Cabernet Sauvignon is the epitome of varietal type for Napa Valley. It is the best combination of gravelly shale and red, iron laden soils that produce blending components that harmonize perfectly. It will be a joy to open now and decant, but will pay dividends to those who cellar this wine.
Napa Valley’s 2014 vintage is a bit closer to a Bordeaux style than to your typical Napa Valley vintage. The year was a little bit cooler climate which translates into a backbone of acidity that lifts the fruit with a tannic frame that supports it. This Cabernet Sauvignon has an elegant and balanced side to it, so we like to call it a bit more of an intellectual wine.
On the rim: crimson ruby hue with hot magenta rim with an opaque ruby core
On the nose: ripe black currant, black cherry, and blackberry wrapped in hot Ghirardelli chocolate with bright red fruit undertones and hints of dusty redwood and wet earth lingering on pomegranate grenadine and caramelized vanilla
On the palate: decadent dark fruit and artisan cocoa with refreshing minerality and bright red fruit colliding with chocolate covered cherries, baking spices, vanilla, and toffee leading into a long velvety finish
